Review: Other Than by Mia Jo Celeste

Review

5 stars from Gabrielle Sally!

“Ms. Celeste creates a tightly woven story that doesn’t fluctuate in pace or suspense with each morsel of story doled out to readers so as to keep us enthralled. And she did that spectacularly well, as we are kept in the dark along with Evie. The gradual development of the relationship between Evie and Victor is rocky to say the least, rife with the unknown and leaving readers to wonder if love will eventually win or if all will be for naught.”

Review: Year of the Demon by Tara Fox Hall

Year of the Demon

Review

4 stars from Gabrielle Sally!

“Much like in the first book, I’ve found this story unexpected and…engaging….A lot happens in this book, so much so that if you blink, you’ll miss something. So much subterfuge, conniving, and posturing for power. Who are the good guys, or at least the less bad guys? Ms. Hall gives nothing away until she’s ready and she takes her time getting there, unraveling the story bit by bit, drawing you in…As the story draws to a close, battles are fought, secrets come out, we are reminded of the original question: What would you do?”

“The story jumps into the excitement quickly…I enjoyed the way the story unfolded building in intensity–both from a personal relationships standpoint and in the action…The premise for the story is interesting, the overall plot is tightly constructed and flows well, and for those who enjoy stories with strong female characters, LEOPARD’S DAUGHTER doesn’t disappoint.”

Review: Plains of Exodus by Robert J Burnett

The Romance Review

“PLAINS OF EXODUS is a typical science fiction story, so lovers of the traditional will enjoy Robert J. Burnett’s. There’s nothing too over the top or overly heavy. It’s very much an us (humans) against them (everyone else) sort of story.

Likes: I really liked Baby (modern version of Hal but with less killing and more milk). Jonah was a great character. The language and the dialogue wasn’t forced and seemed to flow naturally. The story progresses at an even pace and I didn’t hit upon any lags that would slow me down. And some of the smuggler tricks had me laughing. There is a touch of romance between Jonah and Council woman Tyran that isn’t too over the top and fits well with the plot. Overall, I liked the story. It’s tightly constructed and for lovers of space operas, this is an entertaining read.

The Romance Review

5 stars from Gabrielle Sally!

“The characters are fantabulous and I’m not sure I can put together a sufficient amount of adjectives and still make sense… This tightly constructed story is a great read with the right amount of suspense building that doesn’t lag anywhere within the plot. And yes, there is romance; although it’s a slow burn partly due to the constant interruptions from the other characters and well, a kidnapping to resolve.

I cannot recommend this book enough. This is a terrific series that while it doesn’t require reading the other stories (each is a standalone), it will greatly enhance the world-building and your positively enjoyable reading experience.”

The Romance Review

“I’m always entertained by a good Gothic novel. The psychological elements amped up the suspense really well; particularly with the hypnosis… This story is downright nifty. I was drawn to the potential social ramifications and how easy it is to get taken in by a good narrative (both figuratively and literally). It’s good entertainment and might make for an interesting book club read.”

The Romance Review
5 stars from Gabrielle Sally!

“Ms. Brooks does an amazing job of creating an intriguing plot woven into engaging characters that are as distinctive as they are eccentric…The suspense elements are there again, much like in book 1, and you will simultaneously worry and cheer the sisters on…there are romantic elements (Casey and Ryan) that will take you through a range of emotions…this book was an emotional rollercoaster for me and I loved every minute of it.”

4 stars from Gabrielle Sally!

“Ms. DiLouie does a great job world building with engaging characters that are all too human in terms of navigating relationships and family and the emotions that go along with all of it. The story itself has a bit of something for everyone–paranormal, suspense, action, drama, and romance.”
